Okay let's jump in!
What Is The Easiest Way To Cook a Pork Shoulder in The Dutch Oven?
Pork shoulder is a very forgiving cut of meat because of the high fat content making it a great protein to work with if your new to cooking.
The easiest way to cook a pork shoulder is to place it in a Dutch oven cooking at 375 degrees F. for about 3 hours or until meat temperature reaches 145 degrees F.
Now I always cook pork shoulder the same way no matter what I'm making with it because one pork shoulder usually lasts my family of four at least a week and I need a meat that I can transform into a variety of easy flavorful meals.
Step # 1 Season Evenly and Generously
Evenly season your pork shoulder with salt, pepper, garlic, and paprika then place it fat side up in your Dutch oven.
Placing it fat side up allows for all the juices to run down keeping your meat tender and juicy.
Step # 2 Add Liquid To Your Dutch Oven
To keep your pork shoulder from drying out add a water and orange juice mixture until meat is halfway submerged.
To do this just add a 2:1 ration of water to orange juice again it doesn't have to be precise you could even skip the orange juice all together, but it does give a nice acidity to the meat making it even more delicious.
Step # 3 Cook For 3 Hours
Place the lid on and pop into the oven on the center rack allowing it to cook for about 3 hours at 375 degrees F. or until the internal temperature is at 145 degrees F.
Then allow for it to cool and you can begin to easily shred the meat to begin making a variety of tasty meals from just one cut of meat.
